Human Rights Campaign Endorses Shea-Porter

Organization says, Opponent received the worst possible score on LGBT rights.

Shea-Porter campaign spokeswoman Marjorie Connolly released the following statement regarding the Human Rights Campaign’s endorsement of Carol Shea-Porter for Congress:

“Carol has been a courageous supporter of equality since the very beginning, because she’s not afraid to stand up for what she thinks is right. She was a leader in the fight to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and ensure equal rights for LGBT service members. Her accomplishments couldn’t stand in starker contrast to Frank Guinta’s shameful anti-LGBT record. Guinta voted to support the anti-equality DOMA law, voted to delay Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and voted against LGBT domestic violence protections. This past weekend, Guinta was in attendance when the NHGOP voted against supporting marriage equality. Frank Guinta wants to drag us backwards and deny Granite Staters basic civil liberties. His retro position on LGBT rights is wrong for New Hampshire and wrong for America.”

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Shea-Porter helped end Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. She is also an original cosponsor of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), and she signed the historic amicus brief regarding the unconstitutionality of DOMA.
