UPDATE: Inmate Back In NH DOC Custoday
Convicted robber and kidnapper Robert Lee Clayton was reported missing at 2 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2016, but is now in state custody.

MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, 2016, that a minimum security inmate was reported missing from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester and is now a walkaway.
Robert Lee Clayton, 44, of Brattleboro, VT, was reported missing from the facility at approximately 2 p.m., according to Jeffrey Lyons of the NH DOC.
“He did not have permission to leave the facility and after a search he was placed on escape status at 3:30 p.m.,” Lyons stated in an alert.

Lyons reported on Feb. 3, 2016, that Clayton was back behind bars, according to a press statement. He was arrested in Auburn by the NH State Police.
“ There is no further information at this time,” according to Lyons.

Clayton is described as a white, 5-feet, 6-inches tall, 190 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He is currently serving three concurrent 2.5- to 15-year sentences for robbery out of Merrimack County Superior Court. He has previous prison sentences for kidnapping and resisting arrest.
Clayton was first admitted to the New Hampshire State Prison on October 18, 2007. He had been paroled from his earlier convictions on July 28, 2013, and was eligible for parole from his current convictions on January 24, 2016. His maximum release date is July 24, 2028.
The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement agency or the New Hampshire State Prison at 603-271-1801.
A walkaway is considered an escape, which is a Class B felony punishable by 3.5- to 7-years in prison.
