Leg Tapping, Nervousness Leads To Crack Cocaine Bust

Michael Hughes was arrested yesterday outside of a local pub in the Queen City.

MANCHESTER, NH — A Queen City man was arrested yesterday on a drug dealing charge after police stopped to chat with him while he was walking in the middle of a street. Michael Hughes, 27, of Manchester, was arrested on Jan. 17, 2018, on a single count of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Yesterday afternoon, officers patrolling the area behind Mike’s Pub in an unmarked vehicle reportedly saw a man walking toward Lake Avenue, according to Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department.

“The officers stopped the individual – who identified himself as Hughes,” O’Keefe noted. “Hughes appeared extremely nervous and continued tapping on his right pant leg as the officers spoke to him about the pedestrian in a roadway violation. The officers located nine individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine (4.2 grams total) inside of his front pocket after he consented to a search.”
