LETTER: Bedford Destination Imagination Team Seeks Your Support
Riddle Brook "Born Wild" team promotes recycling.

Dear Community member,
We are “Born Wild”, a 4th grade Destination Imagination team from Bedford. We chose to tackle a challenge called “Project Outreach: The World Canvas”. In this challenge we had to identify a community need and improve on it. We chose to increase recycling at our town dump. When we took a field trip there we were shocked to see so many things in the trash that could have been recycled! Only 13% of our town recycles! We want to change that!
Our project activities were to design and install a sign at the transfer station to increase awareness of recycling. The sign is scheduled to be installed at the dump by the end of May! Our other project activity was to get people to sign a pledge to recycle. We have been collecting people’s names, addresses, and emails (in order to follow up with them online). So far, we have collected 85 signatures for the pledge. We plan on collecting signatures at the dump on April 21st as an Earth Day celebration.
Our team has also created a Facebook page to spread the word about our project and about the importance of recycling. You can become a fan of the page and track our progress at “Bedford NH Recycles” on Facebook.

Our team feels the project is starting to have an impact. When the sign is installed at the dump we think our impact will be phenomenal! We hope the sign at the dump will inspire more people to be enthusiastic about recycling. We think it would be great to expand this project throughout NH … and possibly into the whole New England region.
At the State Tournament on March 31 our team won a Renaissance Award recognizing us for our outstanding project. From the award:

"The audience and appraisers were wowed while being taught about the importance and value of recycling through witty commentary, song, and dance. Scenery and props were all made of diverse recycled material, going as far as reusing cardboard from past DI performances. Their passion and energy for their community shone through their flawless performance and wonderful storyline."
Our team won 2nd place in the state competition and will be advancing to the Global Finals in Tennessee at the end of May. Our team is fundraising in the community and would appreciate any donations toward our trip! This is such a wonderful opportunity for us to show what we have accomplished and spread the word about recycling. While the experience of going to the Global Tournament will be priceless, it will cost the team a considerable amount to make the trip. We are asking the community for help in defraying the cost of attendance.
You can make a donation by mailing a check to Riddle Brook School with DI in the memo line to Riddle Brook School 230 New Boston Rd Bedford NH 03110. Please email shanapotvin@gmail.com with any questions or comments. This donation is tax deductible. We are also in need of items for a silent auction we are organizing to raise funds. Thank you for your support and donation!
