Maine Fugitive Arrested Working At Amoskeag Fishways Dam

Police arrested Matthew Reilly of Canaan, a convicted thief and forger, on a warrant after he allegedly attempted to flee the grasp of cops.

MANCHESTER, NH — A man from Maine reportedly working in New Hampshire was arrested on a warrant yesterday after allegedly attempting to flee from police. Matthew Reilly, 28, of Canaan, ME, was arrested on July 31, 2017, on fugitive from justice and resisting arrest or detention charges. Officers were sent to the Amoskeag Fishways Dam to check on a wanted man who might be working at the facility but had an active warrant, according to Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department.

“They received information that a Maine man, who was wanted for a probation violation, was working at the Amoskeag Fishways dam, located north of 740 Commercial St.,” O’Keefe alleged. “They spoke with the foreman of the job site who in turn called to the wanted man, Reilly.”

Reilly, however, allegedly attempted to flee but failed to escape when police located him along the river bank, O’Keefe stated. He was placed into custody and transported to police headquarters. Reilly was scheduled to be arraigned today.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Reilly was arrested in Skowhegan, ME, in March 2015, on forgery charges. In December 2014, and January 2015, he was allegedly involved in forgery incidents in Anson, ME, and Athens, ME, according to CentralMaine.com. He was convicted of those counts in January 2015, the website stated. The website also noted that Reilly was convicted of theft in late 2014, in Clinton, ME, and received a five-month jail sentence and ordered to pay restitution.
