NH Father Arrested After Infant Sustains Head Injuries

Anthony Yarbrough faces a first-degree assault charge yesterday after an eight-day investigation into his 6-month-old son's injuries.

MANCHESTER, NH — Detectives in the Queen City are being heralded for their investigative work that led to charges against a local man after an infant reportedly suffered head injuries earlier this month, according to a press statement. Anthony Yarbrough, 28, of an unknown address, was arrested on May 24, 2017, and charged with felony first-degree assault. The investigation started on May 16, after police and fire and rescue teams were sent to a home in Manchester after a call involving an infant who sustained suspicious head injuries, according to Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department.

Two detectives “spearheaded the investigation and concluded Yarbrough was responsible for the infant boy’s head injuries," O’Keefe stated.

He added, “Child abuse cases are very difficult cases to investigate, so exceptional investigative work is required to hold people accountable when crimes are committed against children too young to communicate for themselves.”

In a press statement, Chief Nick Willard credited both detectives “for their outstanding work on this particular case." The child is currently in the care of family members while recovering from his injuries.

Yarbrough was arrested yesterday, arraigned today in Manchester District Court, and held on cash bail. WMUR-TV is reporting that earlier today, Yarbough denied assaulting the boy.

According to reports online, Yarbough is no stranger to police.

Back in April 2014, when he was living in Northfield, according to WMUR-TV, he was arrested in Derry on burglary and resisting charges after allegedly trying to steal copper plumbing from an elementary school. Back in 2007, he was arrested for burglary after allegedly stealing guns from a shop in Manchester. The charge was issued after he reportedly threatened a member of a rival gang with a handgun, according to reports online.
