Nikki Haley – Can She Tell the Truth?
We did a little fact-checking on Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley. Here is what we found.

Note: Edited to add information on the December 6 debate.
Does Nikki Haley Sound Like a Democrat?
ON CHINA
Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley has made a forceful condemnation of China, characterizing it as the "strongest and most disciplined enemy" ever faced by the United States. But as Governor of South Carolina she gave tax incentives, taxpayer money and land to Chinese Communist companies. She very actively recruited investment from the Chinese Communist Party into South Carolina and in fact was the number one ranked governor at bringing in China into her state. Why flip now? [Haley has be seen on video praising CCP companies even stating "I now work for you". This was brought up at the December 6 debate, a fact she denied]

ON FOREIGN POLICY
Being on Boeing’s board does not automatically make someone a foreign policy expert. Haley seems all too willing to let the US fund and engage in foreign wars, something we cannot afford. Republicans are increasingly wary of foreign aid and entanglements, per our US Constitution. Americans are tired of getting involved in foreign wars that have no apparent solution and no end in sight. Haley seems propped up by the Military Industrial Complex. Foreign aid is no problem for her for Ukraine and others. Is it any wonder some are calling her “Bush in high heels”? What is Haley’s pledge to be “American First”? [Haley backed a $900 million package of subsidies for Boeing manufacturing facilities in South Carolina in 2009 while she was a state lawmaker and
candidate for governor, according to The Wall Street Journal.]

ON IMMIGRATION
In a recent TV ad she claimed that the US should NOT take in any more immigrants after having been recorded saying just the opposite. She is now touting the need for more immigrants to fill jobs. What is her policy on immigration?
ON TAXES
As Governor, Haley flip-flopped on increasing the gas tax. She said she would never support it, but went back on her word. Other than reducing Social Security benefits, she has described few other specific spending cuts. Tax cuts and spending control are crucial to the Republican agenda.
ON SOCIAL SECURITY
Haley calls social security an ‘entitlement’ even though that money has been taken from workers to be managed (or mismanaged) by government. She feels 65 is “way too low” for retirement age. However, life expectancy in the US fell to 77 in 2020 and dropped further, to just over 76, in 2021. That's the largest decrease over a two-year span since the 1920s.
ON CENTRAL BANK DIGITAL CURRENCY
Bitcoin is a system of currency that does not involved the government. CBDC would be digital currency run by the government. Haley has expressed support for a CBDC. This means that by making all currency digital, the government could be privy to any of your transactions with the ability to cut you off from your money supply or tax you on even the smallest private transactions.
ON PARENTAL RIGHTS
During the last debate, Haley questioned what they were teaching our children in public schools. Haley claims she supports saving women's sports and making sure parents have a say in their children's education. However, this is in contradiction to the fact that she previously sided with Disney who were opposing a parental rights bill in Florida. As Governor, she even refused to support legislation in SC to keep boys out of girls’ bathrooms. So which is it Nikki? Do you support parental rights? [During the December 6 debate, Haley lied and claimed she was against men in women's bathrooms and claimed DeSantis was not, even though DeSantis signed a similar bill to the one she vetoed!]
ON VACCINE MANDATES
Haley says she’s always been opposed to vaccine mandates. But as a state legislator in SC she introduced a bill to mandate HPV vaccines for 7th grade girls, and voted AGAINST allowing parents to opt out even though some have been harmed by HPV vaccines. Why no opt-out?
ON FREE SPEECH and RIGHT TO PRIVACY
Haley recently said the first thing she'd do as president would be to tell social media companies to require that all accounts worldwide be verified with IDs. Nikki Haley asserts that allowing people to post on social media anonymously is a "national security threat". She promises that as president, she will force "every person on social media" to be "verified by their name." This policy was also espoused by Donald Trump in 2016 and is frighteningly reminiscent of policies in place in Communist China. This policy would be a complete contradiction to our rights as protected by the first amendment. Does Haley consider our Constitution when forming policy?
ON THE CONFEDERATE FLAG AND MONUMENTS
Haley signed a bill to remove the Confederate flag from the grounds of the state Capitol in 2015, although she did not support the removal of civil war monuments. Some January 6th rioters carried American flags. Should we ban the American flag as a result?
ON THE “STOLEN” ELECTION
Haley embraced candidates in 2022 who repeated Trump’s false claims about stolen elections and other conspiracy theories. She endorsed or campaigned on behalf of failed candidates Walker in Georgia, Bolduc in New Hampshire, and Oz in Pennsylvania. She is now running ads that engage in Trump-like tactics, making fun of the appearance and clothing of other candidates. Ironically, right after stating that ‘Chaos Follows Him Everywhere He Goes’, Haley says she would still back Trump if he’s the nominee in 2024.
ON TRUTH IN ADVERTISING
Recent campaign ads from a Haley-supporting PAC SFA Fund claim that fellow candidate Gov. DeSantis was a ‘liar and a liberal’ on the environment. His record on fracking was misrepresented using a manipulated video. Because Floridians care about preserving the ecosystem of the Everglades, fracking had already been banned before DeSantis became governor, a position supported by many of the state’s Republicans. It also included a clip claiming DeSantis was a ‘liberal’ on the environment as a result of his budget proposal for more money to help tackle the challenges posed by weather events that are common in Florida, events which were causing higher insurance rates. The truth? Haley herself said “First of all, yes, is climate change real? Yes, it is,” at the first debate in August. The fact that Florida’s Governor felt it important to do something to help mitigate the effects of bad weather, regardless of the cause, does not make him a ‘liberal’ on the environment.
The American public is tired of politicians who constantly lie to them or change their positions depending on their audience. Can Nikki Haley ever be trusted to tell the truth?
