Non-Citizen Caught Using Fake Docs to Obtain License: NHSP

Miguel Baez Zapata of the Dominican Republic and Lawrence was arrested by New Hampshire State Police at the DMV.

CONCORD, NH — Workers at the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles in Manchester tipped New Hampshire State Police off to a possible fraudulent license application which led to the arrest of a non-citizens on records charges, according to state police. Miguel Baez Zapata, 57, of Lawrence, MA, was arrested on Feb. 22, 2017, for unsworn falsification and tampering with public records.

Troop G troopers were sent to Manchester to investigate the claim by DMV employees that a man attempting to obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license might have fraudulent documents. The man was allegedly identifying himself as Angel Luis Rivera Aponte, 55, of Manchester, according to Det. Sgt. David McCormack.

“When Troopers arrived, they were able to confirm that the documents he presented were fraudulent,” McCormack alleged. “With the cooperation of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the troopers were ultimately able to identify Rivera Aponte as Miguel Baez Zapata, age 57, of Lawrence, MA. Furthermore, it was discovered that Baez Zapata was a citizen of the Dominican Republic."

Baez Zapata was arrested and charged. He refused bail and was scheduled to be arraigned today.

It was unknown at post time if Zapata was in the United States legally.
