First, today's weather:
Beautiful day today with plenty of sunshine. High: 52. Tonight, below freezing. Low: 29.
Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- The northern lights were visible in New Hampshire Wednesday night. The intense colors were seen as far south as Jaffrey. Granite Staters were treated to an incredible sight, with colorful northern lights blazing across New Hampshire, including places like Weirs Beach, Mt. Kearsarge, and as far south as Jaffrey. The aurorae were visible due to a large sunburst from the sun that sparked "geomagnetic storms" when they encountered the earth's magnetic field. When they hit the atmosphere, the super-charged particles release light. Photos of the spectacular sight were uploaded to WMUR's U Local Facebook page. You can see images here:(WMUR)
- CDC Salmonella Warning Lingers For Onions From Mexico: The CDC said that an outbreak of salmonella that has sickened more than 650 people, has been traced to whole red, white and yellow onions imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed throughout the United States by ProSource Inc. The onions were last imported in late August, but officials said onions can be stored for months "and may still be in homes and businesses." Some companies that distributed products containing the onions include Keeler Family Farms, Potandon Produce, L.L.C., a Green Giant brand, Hello Fresh, and Every Plate as well as markets and stores. If you get sick and think you may have been exposed to contaminated onions, tell your doctor about the possible exposure. A special test is necessary to diagnose the salmonella bacteria. - On Sunday It's Time To Fall Behind: Daylight Saving Time ends and it's time to turn the clocks back one hour in the United States and Canada on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 a.m., local standard time. Sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier on Nov. 7 than the day before. That means there will be more light in the morning. (Time and Date)
- There is a strange sight in the woods in Bedford, New Hampshire. An old tree is growing around a discarded white sink that was abandoned and wedged between its branches. According to the Forgotten New Hampshire Facebook page, Riley Glover posted the curios Bedford photos. Some commenters said the sink should be cleaned out and used as a birdbath, others made other lighthearted remarks, while some were concerned about the health of the tree and that the sink had been discarded in the woods. A tree growing around a sink is a strange sight, everyone agreed. You can read more here: (WOKQ)
