Noted Astronomer, Author, Blogger Talks April 13

Astronomer, author, and blogger Dr. Phil Plait to talk about Mars, at The Derryfield School, Monday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Noted astronomer, author, and blogger Dr. Phil Plait will give a talk at The Derryfield School on Monday, April 13 as part of the School’s E.C. Sanborn Visiting Fellow program. Dr. Plait spent his early career as an astronomer working on the development of the Hubble Space Telescope. After his work as a researcher, he turned to education in the late 90’s, and is perhaps best known for his science blog, Bad Astronomy. The blog both shares interesting astronomical facts and happenings, as well as debunks popular astronomy myths, including astrology and the moon landing “hoaxes.” He is also the author of two books, Bad Astronomy, which deals with much of the same subject matter as his blog, and Death from the Skies, which is about possible ways that astronomical events could have a catastrophic effect on life on earth.

His evening talk, titled “Where has our Curiosity Taken Us?” is about Mars. The talk starts at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
