Physician to Talk at Girl Scouts Fundraiser on March 27

Elizabeth A. Talbot to talk to young women at ToGetHerThere Luncheon.

New Hampshire’s Deputy Epidemiologist, Elizabeth A. Talbot, M.D., will speak at Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains’ ToGetHerThere Luncheon on Friday, March 27 at Southern New Hampshire University’s Hooksett campus, according to a press release.

Dr. Talbot will talk about her critical mission of training health-care workers around the globe to stay safe while caring for ebola patients. The epidemic investigator and infectious disease specialist—who chose her career at the age of 13--will also speak about the importance of investing in and empowering girls.

One Girl Scout initiative encourages girls to explore careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. Dr. Talbot will speak to her experience as a physician, professor, and “what it is to do the work I do as a woman.”

Girl Scouts understand that when girls succeed, so does society. However, organizations for girls receive only 6-8% of philanthropic dollars nationally. That’s why Girl Scouting launched ToGetHerThere, the largest fundraising campaign for girls in history, with a goal of raising $1 billion for girls by 2020, nationwide.

Tickets for the March 27 fundraiser, to be held in the banquet hall at SNHU’s 2500 North River Road campus from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., are $75 each. Contact Karen Krause at 603-627-4158 x4110 to reserve a seat, or see girlscoutsgwm.org.

“I went to a women’s college, and the philosophy of education there was incredibly beneficial to me when it came to assuming a leadership role,” Dr. Talbot, who lives in New London, said.

As the premier leadership development program for girls, Girl Scouts gives them access to unique and empowering opportunities they couldn’t have anywhere else. The goal of the ToGetHerThere campaign is to transform the leadership landscape for girls, and to raise funds to help them reach their full potential. When you invest in girls, you change the world.

The ToGetHerThere Luncheon is sponsored in part by Bank of New Hampshire, Café Services Inc., Catholic Medical Center, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains serves more than 10,500 girls across New Hampshire and Vermont, thanks to 4,000 trained and dedicated volunteers. Girl Scouting has been building girls of courage, confidence, and character for more than 100 years.
