Police: ‘Thoroughly Clear Snow Off Your Vehicle’
Bedford Police highlight windshield of a car, being driven by a teen, that was smashed due to flying snow and ice on I-293 recently.

BEDFORD, NH — The Bedford Police Department is reminding the public that it is state law to clear of the roof of your vehicle to keep snow and ice from flying off and striking other vehicles. The department took to Facebook on Jan. 5, 2018, to share photos of a windshield that was recently hit by flying ice. The post noted that a teenager was driving the vehicle on I-293 North near Manchester.
“I am sure that most of us have had some near misses (at the very least) and that was enough to scare the living daylights out of us,” the post stated. “It is the law, folks! THOROUGHLY CLEAR THE SNOW OFF OF YOUR VEHICLE.”
The law, also known as Jessica’s Law, approved in 2002 after Jessica Smith, a Nashua woman, was killed after an accident caused by ice that flew off a truck in 1999, “doesn't care if it is a truck, minivan, 18 wheeler, or Mini-cooper. The law doesn't care if you are a Shorty McShorty or in a wicked rush. Get a broom or enlist help.”
