The 9th annual Regional Idol Scholarship Competition will be held at the Dana Center Theater at Saint Anselm College on Saturday, January 4th at 7:00pm. The quality of the vocalists, the popularity of the music performed, the nine piece Idol backup band, the panel of professional vocalist judges, and the selection of the ultimate winners by audience vote make the show one of the area's great entertainment events.

Selected for their vocal talent from a large pool of hopeful applicants, the twelve most talented area high school vocalists will compete for recognition, for scholarship money -- and for the Dana Center audience. Many weeks of hard work on the part of the contestants, the band, the show's producer, music director and the Rotary Club of Bedford precede the event. The Idol show is one of 3 major community events that the Rotary Club of Bedford uses to fund its civic, charitable and scholarship activities -- activities that contributed well over $20,000 during the past year.

The Audience Experience

What you will see, when you attend, is each of the twelve contestants on stage performing one musical selection. After each performance, a panel of 3 judges critiques the contestant for all to hear. After all of the contestants have finished there will be an intermission during which the judges will select the four best performers to return as post-intermission finalists.

Having already qualified for a share of the scholarship prize money, the 4 finalists each return to sing one more number. Then the house lights come up and the audience takes over. Each audience member fills out their ballot, voting for the finalist they think is best. Ushers then collect the ballots. While the votes are tabulated, past Idol Show winners will perform. Then the finalists return to the stage and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners -as determined by the audience vote- are announced by emcee host-musician Doug Rickard.
