Roger McGuinn and Mike Girard Rock the Palace
Legendary Musicians Roger McGuinn and Mike Girard unveil their new projects
Experience two nights of classic rock at the Palace. May 12th, Roger McGuinn – Co-founder of “The Byrds” – whisks audiences away with his smooth folk music. On May 14th, Mike Girard – co-founder of “The Fools” – brings his newest project, “Mike Girard’s Big Swinging Thing” to life.
Inspired by the musical styles of Elvis, the Beatles, and country music, McGuinn began to play the guitar at age 14, creating melodies of these three different styles of music. Well-known for the hits “Turn, Turn, Turn”, “Eight Miles High” and “Mr. Tambourine Man”, by his band “The Byrds” – a group which gained recognition in the late 1960s and 1970s – McGuinn has been playing this smooth style of music for decades, continuing his tribute to folk music in all his performances. The creation of the Folk Den Project twenty years ago continues this tradition. His preservation of folk music, with the help of his signature 12-string Rickenbacker guitar, together emits an iconic sound that will definitely resonate with audience members all night long!
Two days later, dust off your dancing shoes and prepare for a night of big horns and great music as we welcome Mike Girard’s “Big Swinging Thing.” Girard has put together a new band similar to “The Fools,” but with a twist! Instead of the four to five piece rock band outfit, Girard gathered together some of New England’s best horn players to create a twenty piece grandstand band. Complete with back-up duo, “the jewels” and former “Fools’” members Rich Bartlett, Joe Holaday, and Jim Taft, Girard’s band is a guaranteed fun night out.

Playing some of their own hits like Night Out and Psycho Chicken, the swing band puts their signature spin on hits by Frank Sinatra, AC/DC, Tom Jones, Jonny Cash, The Stones, The Animals, and Green Day. Their extensive set list will be sure to have every foot in audience tapping, if not plain old swing dancing!
Ticket prices for Roger McGuinn range from $30.50 to $60.50. Tickets for Mike Girard start at $25.00. Both are available by calling 603.668.5588 or visiting the Box Office located on 80 Hanover Street in Manchester, N.H or online at www.palacetheatre.org.
