Rombeau, Bandazian Win Bedford Town Council Seats

Breaking: Town voters also approved school contracts and $71.2-plus million operating budget.

BEDFORD, NH — The town of Bedford held its postponed election on March 16, 2017, with voters electing an incumbent and a newcomer to town council seats. According to the unofficial election results, Catherine Rombeau received the most votes for town council – 1,327 – with incumbent Chris Bandazian coming in second with 1,273. James Barrett placed third, 91 votes behind Bandazian.

Town Clerk Lori Radke also won re-election against Diane O’Neil, by a more than nine-to-one margin.

Anthony Frederick Jr. nosed out Robert Brooks for the single Library Trustee seat – 891 to 803.

The town also approved – by overwhelming margins – a number of zoning amendments. One zoning amendment – a citizen petition for Old Bedford Road Realty LLC to rezone residential/agriculture to commercial – was rejected by voters, 339 to 1,987.

Three charter provisions – changes in council member compensation – were also easily approved.

On the school ballot, Bill Foote and Bill Kassler were elected to the school board running unopposed.

Voters also approved a two-year collective bargaining agreement with the Bedford Education Association, an agreement with custodial and maintenance staffers, and the secretaries, clerks, and assistants labor aggrement.

Voters also approved a $71,221,547 school operating budget by 332 votes.

More than 2,400 voters – about 14 percent – participated in the election.
