Sanborn Praises Passage of Balanced Budget Amendment

CACR 27 allows the voters of New Hampshire to weigh in on a constitutional amendment to require New Hampshire to have a balanced budget.

CONCORD, NH - The state Senate approved CACR 27, a constitutional amendment resolution which allows the voters to weigh in on an amendment to require New Hampshire to have a balanced budget.

State Sen. Andy Sanborn, R-Bedford, one of the sponsors of the proposal, said the state deserved a chance to vote on the proposal.

“The New Hampshire Legislature serves as the steward of our taxpayer’s money, especially during the budget process. This bill passed on the Senate floor will amend New Hampshire’s constitution, prohibiting the state from spending more than is collected in tax revenue in a given year,” he said. “Our taxpayers expect us to live within our means and develop a budget that doesn’t spend more than the revenue our state is able to bring in. This requirement will force legislators to meet our constituents’ expectations by limiting spending and operating within a balanced budget each biennium. This is a welcome common sense measure, ensuring that New Hampshire is held to a greater level of financial responsibility for years to come.”
