Sanborn Thanks Colleagues for Support of Domestic Violence Fund

State Senator says he'll continue to seek funding for programs without increasing Marriage Fee.

State Sen. Andy Sanborn, R-Bedford, today thanked his state Senate colleagues for their unanimous support for his amendment increasing state appropriations to the Fund for Domestic Violence Grant Programs, according to a press statement.

Sanborn’s amendment to HB 681 passed 24-0, and would have increased General Fund Appropriations for the Domestic Violence Fund, rather than impose a $5 increase on the Marriage License Fee.

“I appreciate my colleagues coming together to support my amendment to fund domestic violence grant programs. Public safety should be Job One at the State House,” Sanborn said. “My approach would have restored General Fund support for these vital programs rather than impose higher fees on couples getting married. Unfortunately, my approach was not included in the final version of HB 681. I will continue to fund Domestic Violence Grant Programs as we build the state budget over the next three weeks.”
