September 13 Primary Voter Guides

A Patch Exclusive

Are you a Republican who is confused about how to vote in the September 13 Republican primary? Here are a few reports that might help.

Whenever anyone signs up to run for state office they are immediately bombarded with a number of surveys and questionnaires from various issue advocacy groups. The good news is these surveys and questionnaires help the public to get an idea of where the candidates stand on important issues.

If you are a voting Republican, it is assumed that you care about lower taxes, less government, educational freedom, and preserving parental and second amendment rights, among other things.

There are groups that rate all incumbent candidates by examining their past voting records.

HRA final scores have been published before but it is worth revisiting them. The HRA is the Republican's own party 'watchdog' group at the NH Statehouse.
Here are the scores for the INCUMBENTS:

Laurie Sanborn 96.0%
Keith Murphy 95.6%
Bart Fromuth 93.0%
Linda Gould 92.9%
Dave Danielson 75.7%
Terry Wolf 55.5%

(Ken Peterson scored 63.9% but is not running again)

The Republican Liberty Caucus, and independent watchdog group, takes it one step further by suggesting to the public for whom they should NOT vote by issuing a comprehensive sheet on each incumbent. These information sheets outline all the votes that should have been made with Republicans but instead were made with Democrats. Each day RLCNH has been releasing a report on an individual republican regarding his or her lack of compliance with the Republican platform.

You can see RLCNH's full list of incumbents who made questionable votes here:

Only one Bedford incumbent, Terry Wolf (R), has had the dubious honor of being included in their list of "Republicans in name only".

The most basic of all pledges a Republican can make is to promise not to vote for any bill that would result in the imposition of a sales or income tax, or increase an existing tax. The Pledge originated with former Governor Meldrim Thomson, and has been curated by CNHT since 1999.

The Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers lists these Pledge takers on their website every two years.

http://www.cnht.org/pledgers.php

Every single Republican and independent gubernatorial candidate (and even one Democrat), every single Republican Executive Council candidate, most of the Republican New Hampshire Senate candidates, and a great many of the Republican candidates for the House of Representatives have taken this important Pledge.

Those who are not listed have not responded to at least two requests by CNHT to take the original Thomson Pledge.

Candidates in Bedford who have IGNORED these requests are John Graham, Philip Pichette and Terry Wolf.

There is still time for candidates to take the Pledge and have themselves listed so please check back to make sure that CNHT's repeated requests didn't just get lost in their email or caught in their spam filters.

Hope to see you at the polls on September 13.

UPDATE* On September 11, Jim Aguiar agreed to sign the CNHT Pledge and was added to the list.
