Sereno Named New Police Chief In Goffstown

The captain has been promoted by selectmen and will take over the department in January after outgoing Chief Robert Browne retires.

GOFFSTOWN, NH — Goffstown will soon have a new police chief. Capt. Eric Sereno was named the new chief in town after a recent board of selectmen's meeting where he received a unanimous vote to be appointed to the position. He takes over Jan. 1, 2020.

Sereno will replace outgoing Chief Robert Browne who is retiring at the end of the year after 24 years with department. Brown has been named the director of security at Saint Anselm College, his alma mater.

"The Goffstown community thanks Chief Browne for his many years of dedicated services and wish him well in his new role," the board offered in a statement.

Sereno is a lifelong resident of town having graduated high school in town. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and has been on the police force since 2006.

"During Eric’s time as an officer in Goffstown, he has built strong relationships within the community on patrol, as a detective, and as an executive leader," according to statement. "He has worked closely with NH Homeland Security and Emergency Management to develop school safety plans, was instrumental in transitioning the department to an electronic-based records system, and worked tirelessly to make Goffstown Police Department one of the first in the state to have body cameras."

Sereno lives in town with his wife and children. He also volunteers with Goffstown Junior Basement and the school district.
