Stolen Gun Leads to Drug, Other Charges

Police: Maria Camacho allegedly stole a firearm from a Manchester home on Friday.

MANCHESTER, NH — A local woman faces a felony charge after allegedly stealing a gun from a home in the Queen City, according to police. Maria Camacho, 36, of Manchester, was arrested on Oct. 15, 2016, for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, possession of a controlled drug, and violation of bail conditions.

According to police, on Friday afternoon, a resident on Union Street reported the theft of a firearm. The man alleged that a woman came to his door at around 5 p.m. and requested a glass of water and use of a bathroom.

“In the time he walked into the kitchen and returned, he noted his firearm, left in the open, was missing,” according to Sgt. Michael Biron of the Manchester Police Department. “(The victim) provided a description of the female and in particular large square bamboo earrings which she wore.”

The victim later identified the woman – Camacho – from a photo lineup and a warrant was issued against her.

The next day, officers found Camacho and arrested her, without incident. During the arrest, police allegedly found her to be in possession of a controlled drug, so a drug charge was added. Since she was out on bail, a breach charge was also added to her docket. Camacho was arraigned this morning.
