Teen Shot In The Face While Sitting On Park Bench

Police are asking for the public's help after two shootings in Manchester during the past 24 hours.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester Police are asking for the public’s help after two shootings in the Queen City including one where a teenager was shot in the face, according to a press alert. The first incident occurred on Saturday night at just before 10 p.m. on South Main Street after police were sent to a report of shots fired. Witnesses reported that a vehicle described as being possibly dark green or dark colored four door station wagon, with two kayaks or canoes on the roof, drove by the residence several times, according to Sgt. Brian Cosio of the Manchester Police Department.

“The occupants of the vehicle stopped in a parking lot across the street and exited the vehicle,” he alleged. “One of the subjects produced a handgun, either tan or silver in color, possibly equipped with a red laser sight on it. He postured with the handgun, pointing it at the ground, but did not point it at anyone.”

The men yelled at subjects inside 377 S. Main St., police said, claiming that someone from the home had thrown something at their car and they were going to shoot the person. The men re-entered the vehicle, drove north, and then, three or four gunshots were heard, and the vehicle drove onto Granite Street. Witnesses lost the vehicle in the area of Canal Street. Police also recovered shell casings from South Main Street, Cosio noted.

Officers were sent to Catholic Medical Center for a report of a 17-year-old man shot in the face.

The teen stated he was sitting on a park bench on Pine Street when he was approached by another male, “who, without provocation, shot him in the face.” The teen received a ride to the hospital.

“A short time later, officers conducting a canvas and follow up located a spent shelling casing in the area of 207 Pine St.,” Cosio stated. “A witness provided a description of a yellow motor vehicle that fled the scene at a high rate of speed just after the shooting.”

Officers continued to follow up on the incident and later, located a motor vehicle which had blood and ballistic evidence in it on Main Street. The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation and further processing by members of the Investigative Division.

The juvenile victim was transferred to Dartmouth Hospital for further treatment and possible surgery.
