Truck Strikes Guardrail, Fuel Spills Into the Merrimack
NHSP, fire and rescue teams investigate diesel fuel spill on Granite Street after crash on I-293.
MANCHESTER, NH - A driver for Town Fair Tire traveling south on I-293 reportedly struck a guard rail, according to scanner chatter, on March 2, 2016.
The driver reportedly didn’t stop and, instead, entered the Amoskeag Rotary, drove over the river to Commercial Street and then Granite Street, when it pulled over. The driver reportedly stopped to adjust his mirror while parked over a storm basin and the truck’s diesel tank began leaking into the basin and the river, according to witnesses and scanner chatter.
Manchester Fire and Rescue teams responded to discover the leak of diesel fuel on to the road and into the Merrimack River. The driver of the truck, listed out of Connecticut, reported to police thathe didn’t know what happened to cause the leak and possibly hit a curb. According to police, he allegedly later admitted to striking the guardrail and leaving the scene.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental services cleaned up the scene and troopers in Troop G are handling the investigation.
