Trucker from Mass. Crashes into Vehicles, NHSP Cruiser on I-293

Driver cited for negligent driving, move over law violation; state police ask everyone to drive with care.

MANCHESTER, NH — An accident on I-293 North in Manchester was made much worse after a trucker from Massachusetts reportedly plowed into the crash scene, damaging a state police cruiser and other vehicles, according to the New Hampshire State Police. At around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2016, a trooper was off at the scene of an accident south of Exit 4 with traffic backed up due to construction.

The trooper was out of his cruiser at the scene when he reportedly heard “screeching tires behind him” and observed a box truck strike the rear of his cruiser as well as three other vehicles before coming to a stop.

“The box truck, which was registered to AJ Trucking out of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was towed from the scene and subsequently inspected by Troopers from our Commercial Enforcement Unit (Troop G),” according to Lt. N.A. Noyes of the NHSP. “The driver was cited for negligent driving and motorist’s duties when approaching highway emergencies (Move Over Law). Both the truck and the driver were placed out-of-service.”

Noyes said in a statement that state police are asking motorists to drive with care and obey the Move Over Law.

“At this time there are a number of roadway construction sites on our highways where construction workers, personnel from the Department of Transportation and Troopers from the NH State Police are working daily and nightly,” Noyes noted. “These areas are identified by required signage and give our citizens plenty of notice. Please drive with caution.”
