Bedford Teen Driver Strikes Father, Brother In Driveway

Both injured taken to hospital after being hit while walking toward a school bus stop on Black River Road.

BEDFORD, NH — A father and son were transported to an area hospital after being struck by a family member pulling out of the driveway of their Bedford home Wednesday morning. Bedford Police say 18-year-old Trae Sealey was backing out of the driveway on Black River Road at about 7:15 when his 2010 Chevrolet Malibu hit his 47-year-old father his 8-year-old brother, who were walking to a nearby bus stop.

Police say the father suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, while the son suffered serious injuries. A statement released late Wednesday afternoon said it is not believed there was any malicious intent involved, and that it appears to be an "unfortunate accident."

"Accidents like this occur all too frequently across the country when a family member fails to take notice of other people in a driveway or street when backing out," Bedford Chief John Bryfonski said. "In some cases, the construction of the vehicle involved may limit the rear view, even if there are rear cameras. We urge all drivers to take the necessary steps to ensure the path behind their vehicle is clear of all persons or obstructions before backing up. Always look twice and never rely solely on a camera or a single glance when backing up."
