The Week Ahead: Book Signings, Family Fun, Live Music, and the Return of Scarecrows

Some fun things to do around New Hampshire plus the latest Granite State weather.

Weather

On Monday, while the morning starts with frost and chilly temps, it will warm up to the mid-60s with sunny skies. Overnight lows drop down to the high 40s (low 50s on the Seacoast). On Tuesday, expect some drizzle in the morning, with temps in the mid-60s. Overnight lows will be in the 50s. Showers and thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday, with highs in the high 60s and the mid-40s at night (it will be slightly warmer on the coast). The sun is expected to return on Thursday with a high near 60 (overnight, it will drop down to the low 40s; mid-40s on the coast). Friday will be sunny, too.

Monday

  • The Families First Health & Support Center, 100 Campus Drive in Portsmouth, hosts a family fun night at 5:30 p.m. The event is free but registration is required.
  • The Capital Toastmasters host a meeting where you can learn to improve your public speaking at 6:30 p.m. at Granite Ledges, 151 Langley Parkway in Concord.
  • A Drinkable Arts Glass Paint Party will be held at Pizzeria Uno, 593 Amherst St. in Nashua at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Gibson’s Bookstore Book Club in Concord reads “The Last Policeman,” this year’s Concord Reads project. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the store on South Main Street.
  • Learn about Buddhism at the Portsmouth Public Library, 175 Parrott Avenue at 7 p.m.
  • Lisa Guyer hosts an open mic night at Whippersnappers Restaurant on 44 Nashua Road in Londonderry at 8 p.m.

Tuesday

  • The Rudman Center Conversations with the Candidates continues at the UNH School of Law in Concord with former U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta at 9 a.m. The event will also be broadcast on NHPR.
  • The Bedford Farmers’ Market will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Seton Parking Lot, 190 Meetinghouse Road in Bedford.
  • The Wings of Knowledge continues at NHTI in Concord with the presentation, Gary Samson, A Life in Photography, at 6 p.m.
  • A jazz jam will be held at 6 p.m. at the Press Room, 77 Daniel St. in Portsmouth.
  • Just Naturals & Company, 176 South River Road in Bedford hosts a healthy eating on the go presentation at 6:45 p.m. Registration is required; tickets are $10.
  • The River Card Room, 185 Elm St. in Milford hosts bingo night at 6:45 p.m.

Wednesday

  • Al’s Automotive & Truck Center, 156 Epping Road in Exeter offers its women’s auto care seminar at 5 p.m. The event is free but registration is required.
  • A wine and cheese tasting social will be held at 5 p.m. at the WineNot Boutique, 170 Main St. in Nashua.
  • The Portsmouth Brewery, 56 Market St. in Portsmouth, hosts a discussion about space weather at 5 p.m.
  • The Wadleigh Memorial Library, 49 Nashua St. in Milford continues its series of discussions about the Civil War at 6:30 p.m.
  • WHDH-TV investigative reporter Hank Phillippi Ryan will be at Gibson’s Bookstore in Concord talking about and signing copies of her new mystery, “Truth Be Told,” at 7 p.m.
  • Mike hosts an open mic at The Draft on South Main Street in Concord.
  • The Blue Mermaid Island Grill, 409 The Hill in Portsmouth also hosts an open mic at 8:30 p.m.
  • Ian McFeron plays The Press Room, 77 Daniel St. in Portsmouth at 9 p.m.

Thursday

  • Scarecrows of the Port, the annual display of scarecrows throughout downtown Portsmouth and the Pease Tradeport, begins today and runs through the end of the month.
  • Toastmasters in Merrimack hosts a speaking event at 7 a.m. at the town hall, 6 Baboosic Lake Road in Merrimack. The event is free.
  • The Financial Planning Adult Education Conference Center, 77 Gilcreast Road in Londonderry will host a wills, trusts, and estate planning workshop at 6:15 p.m. Registration is required. The fee is $5 to $20.
  • The Canvas Roadshow, 176 South River Road in Bedford hosts a painting on pumpkins demonstration at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
  • A How To Talk So Kids Will Listen Workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Bedford Village Morning School, 19 Ministerial Road in Bedford.
  • Authors Eric Shonkwiler, Tim Horvath, and Nathan Graziano will all be appearing at Gibson’s at 7 p.m. to talk about their new books.
  • “Postmortem,” a murder mystery, will be presented at 8 p.m. at the Court Street Theatre, 14 Court St. in Nashua. Tickets are $12-$15. The play continues during the weekend, too.
  • Hot Tamales plays at the Whippersnappers Restaurant, 44 Nashua Road in Londonderry at 8:30 p.m.
