Grass, Twigs, And Other ‘Dry Fuels’ Could Lead To Elevated Fire Weather Danger In NH, Forecasters Say

Central and southern Granite State cities and towns need to take precautions to contain brush fires and uncontrolled fire spread.

CONCORD, NH — The National Weather Service issued a “special weather statement” Thursday, warning of potential brush fires in central and southern New Hampshire.

A very dry air mass, as well as wind gusts of up to 30 mph, could “create the potential for uncontrolled fire spread” across the state. “Dry fuels,” like grass, leaves, twigs, and other debris, could easily ignite.

“Extra caution should be taken to prevent wildfires,” the alert stated. “Always consult with fire officials before engaging in any open burning activities and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Never leave an open fire unattended and always extinguish campfires completely before leaving.”

Weekend Forecast

Forecasters are calling for sunny skies on Friday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s and a northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph. Overnight lows will be in the lower 30s.

Saturday is also expected to be sunny with highs in the mid-50s and a light wind. Overnight lows will be in the mid-30s.

On Sunday, it will be slightly warmer, with highs in the upper 50s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s.
