CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating the death of a woman found inside a tent in the woods near the transfer station on Friday night.

Just before 11:30 p.m., police dispatch received a report from 911 about a woman calling, screaming for help, and then hanging up. When 911 called back, the person hung up, according to dispatch. The call was placed on Old Turnpike Road between Spring Hill Drive and Terrill Park Drive, according to dispatch.

A few minutes later, dispatch took another call from someone who said the incident was in the woods along the river between Rotary Park and the transfer station. Both police and fire dispatch said they would find a wheelchair marking the path into the woods.

Three officers initially arrived and found a woman, in her early 50s, unresponsive inside a tent. Officers knew the woman from prior encounters, according to scanner chatter. Records show her criminal activity spanned the state and dated back more than 15 years.

Concord fire and rescue teams and other officers then arrived at the scene.

Police also interviewed a man in his mid-40s who was at the site of the woman.

At just before 11:45 p.m., firefighters confirmed the woman was dead and cleared the scene.

An evidence technician was requested later.

At just before 2 a.m., a medical examiner showed up to the scene.

Around 2:45 a.m., a funeral home arrived to remove the woman's body.

Police told the man around 3:15 a.m. that no one was allowed to camp on city property. He reportedly agreed to remove his belongings by Saturday night, according to scanner chatter.
