CONCORD, NH — Motorists in Loudon, Concord, and nearby communities can expect heavy traffic, temporary ramp closures and lane changes Sunday as New Hampshire Motor Speedway hosts the NASCAR Cup Series race in Loudon.

According to the traffic plan, more than 42,000 spectators and 15,000 vehicles are expected, with the race scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation said the traffic control plan is being implemented through the cooperative efforts of the agency, local officials, New Hampshire State Police, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Additional racing and NASCAR practice on Saturday also will affect traffic volumes and lane controls.

The Sunday plan affects the NH Route 106 corridor and parts of I-393 and I-93. On I-93, the I-393 eastbound off-ramp to I-93 south is scheduled to close from about 3:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drivers trying to use that ramp will be diverted to Stickney Avenue to reach I-93 south at Exit 14.

Also from about 3:15 p.m. to 9 p.m., the I-93 Exit 14 southbound off-ramp to Loudon Road and the I-93 Exit 15E southbound off-ramp to I-393 eastbound are scheduled to close. Motorists will be directed to use Exit 15W for Exit 14 destinations and Exit 16 to reach I-393 eastbound. At the I-393 and I-93 interchange, the I-93 northbound off-ramp to I-393 west, Exit 15W, also is scheduled to close during that time.

On race day morning, Route 106 will be set up with two northbound lanes and one southbound lane from just north of I-393 to Beck Road. A third northbound lane will be added from Beck Road to the speedway's South Gate. Left turns from Route 106 will be prohibited at Mudgett Hill Road, Voted Road and Clough Hill Road.

Between 3 p.m. and about 9:30 p.m., northbound Route 106 traffic will be detoured east on Route 129 to Route 107. Drivers can then use Route 140 west to rejoin Route 106 in Belmont or continue north to Route 106 in Laconia. During the same period, Route 106 will shift to multiple southbound lanes to handle race traffic leaving the speedway, and access from several side roads will be restricted to right turns only. Clough Hill Road will be closed to all traffic, according to the plan.

The notice states that uniformed officers will provide traffic control at the primary exit points from NHMS, signalized intersections and other side roads along Route 106. Road users are encouraged to sign up for free traffic and construction alerts through NewEngland511.org.
