CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams extinguished a fire at a homeless camp along the railroad tracks between Storrs and Gulf streets on Wednesday night.

Just past 7:30 p.m., Concord Fire Alarm began receiving reports of a fire in the woods off Interstate 93 south. Witnesses did not know the exact location, but said the fire was north of the Fairfield Inn on Gulf Street and near the Water Street Bridge. Smoke could be seen billowing more than a mile from the scene. The flames appeared to be between 15 and 20 feet high, with several trees catching on fire from the burning tent.

"I'm getting multiple reports it's on the tracks behind Dunkin'," dispatch said.

Engine 7 forestry unit was requested because the Engine 4 unit was out of service.

New Hampshire State Police troopers and Concord police officers also arrived at the scene.

"There's a large amount of smoke showing," one Concord officer said.

News 603 posted video on Facebook.

The first arriving firefighter confirmed there was a large fire in the woods.

A police officer confirmed it was a fully involved campsite. Homeless people at the scene confirmed the camper was not in the tent at the time of the fire.

Firefighters knocked down most of the fire just before 8 p.m.
