CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating racist and antisemitic graffiti found on the Merrimack River Greenway Trail on Monday morning.
City employees with the parks and recreation department were working along the trail and discovered graffiti spray-painted on two signs at the trail entrance and on the paved path. Interim Police Chief Barrett Moulton said investigators believe the vandalism occurred on Sunday night or Monday morning. No one reported the graffiti to police on Sunday, during the day, he added.
In the graffiti, the n-word was mentioned. Also, there were references to "white power," Hitler, and Zion, as well as the words "Wake Up NH."
The signs were taken down, and later, the painted graffiti on the path was covered with black paint. It is unknown when the signs will be replaced.
"The city had the graffiti cleaned up in a short period," Moulton said.
Moulton said police are following up on at least one other tagging report from last week.
