Caring for a Loved One at End of Life: Guidance, Resources and Support for Caregivers

Granite VNA and Granite Ledges of Concord invite community members to attend "Guiding Hands: Caregiver Support Through Life's Final Journey," a free program presented by Pat O'Connor, a nurse practitioner who is board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine with more than 50 years of experience in the field and author of the seminal book, Navigating Life's Final Journey. The program will take place on Saturday, October 17th, from 9:00-11:30 a.m., at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord.

"Caregiving is an extraordinary act of love," said O'Connor. "It is love in action, but it can also cause serious harm to caregivers if they don't have the tools, support or resources to properly care for themselves."

The program will offer participants practical guidance, emotional support and honest conversations about what to expect when caring for a loved one at the end of their life, including:

• Tools to better communicate feelings and needs to family members, doctors, and helpers

• How to deal with complex feelings like guilt, anger, and isolation

• How and when to discuss difficult care decisions.

"Guiding Hands: Caregiver Support Through Life's Final Journey" will also give attendees an opportunity to connect with others who are navigating similar caregiving experiences.

There is no cost to attend this program, but pre-registration is required. The first 50 people to register will receive a copy of O'Connor's book Navigating Life's Final Journey.
