CONCORD, NH — Meghan Hagaman, a candidate for Merrimack County attorney, has received the endorsement of all three Merrimack County commissioners this week: Steve Shurtleff, Stuart Trachy and David Lovlien II.
In a show of bipartisanship, Shurtleff, a Democrat and former Speaker of the House, joined Trachy and Lovlien, both Republicans, in endorsing the GOP nominee. Shurtleff described Hagaman as a candidate he respects regardless of party affiliation and pointed to her work in county and state prosecutions.
"I believe the best thing we can do in public service is remember who we work for: the people of Merrimack County," he said. "I've been in public service long enough to know that party labels don't tell you everything you need to know about a candidate. I'm a Democrat, and Meghan Hagaman is a Republican, but my respect for Megan comes from her record and her commitment to this community."
Shurtleff also said Hagaman brought prosecutorial experience from her time with the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and her current work with the Merrimack County Attorney's Office.
"Meghan loves this county, she cares about its people, and she understands that a county attorney has to be firm in enforcing the law while being fair in carrying out that responsibility," he added. "I'm proud to put my name behind Meghan Hagaman and endorse her for Merrimack County Attorney."
Trachy praised Hagaman for her legal background and leadership, saying she was "exceptionally well qualified for this important position." He added, "She is a true professional, an experienced trial attorney, and a proven leader. Meghan's legal experience, courtroom knowledge, and strong leadership skills make her well prepared to serve the people of Merrimack County." Trachy said he had confidence she would approach the job with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the responsibilities of the position.
"Merrimack County will be in capable hands with Meghan Hagaman, and I am proud to endorse her for County Attorney," he said.
Lovlien also praised the candidate for her work with the attorney general's office, including on some of New Hampshire's most egregious criminal cases, as well as with the Criminal Justice Bureau. He also called her a dedicated professional who would stand up for victims and pursue justice.
"At a time when families want to know their communities are safe and criminals are prosecuted, we need a county attorney with the experience, leadership, and allegiance to public safety to get the job done for the place we all call home," he said. "Meghan carries that depth of experience and a proven record of public service, and I am proud to give my full, unwavering endorsement to Meghan Hagaman for Merrimack County Attorney."
