Politically I am a fiscal conservative, social moderate and a populist who always puts the people first in my decision making process.I am not part of the Free State movement nor the current active socialist movement.I believe in good governess with the prudent expenditure of taxpayer dollars.I supported the increase in road tolls to fund highway and bridge improvements and an increase is park usage fees to maintain our park systems.
The current proposed income tax/statewide property tax is a bad idea as it increases property taxes and provides no guarantee that the additional revenue will actually reduce your property taxes. As with the exception of the issuance of bonds, no current legislature can commit a future legislature to any fixed spending plan. It was reported to me that last year the Concord city manager appeared before a house committee and was asked by the chairman if the state gave the city more money would it reduce the city's property tax rate and he honestly answered no.
The low voter turnout in Concord Municipal elections has resulted in the city council and school board being populated with overachieving spend-a-hollics. As a state legislator there is nothing I can do to stop the ridiculous spending but I can and will introduce legislation to increase the property tax exemption for our most vulnerable; the elderly, handicapped, and veterans.
I will introduce legislation to require high school students to complete a course in personal finance and basic economics, thereby giving them the opportunity to make informed choices about their future.
I support additional funding for public education, especially for our community college system which provides a critical affordable career paths for either vocational or higher education opportunities.
I met with my opponent's father and he said of his 23 year-old son was a "bright kid." Well, let's look at the "bright kid" and see what he really brings to the contest.
He claims this contest is a generational battle. Really? He is relatively new to the Concord community with little community involvement; it cannot be verified if he ever held a full-time job; he has little discernible post-secondary education; he doesn't have to be concerned with Concord's high property taxes or rents because he lives with his mother (hopefully not in the basement).
So, instead of being a generational battle, it is really a battle between extensive life experiences and a virtual empty slate.
It's your choice on Nov. 3: do you vote for normal or crazy?
