$5M Exeter Library Renovations Article Fails

Molly Cowan was also elected to the Board of Selectmen according to unofficial results while a $7M park renovation proposal was rejected.

EXETER, NH — Despite a blizzard, nearly 2,800 voters out of 12,747 – about 22 percent – of the town of Exeter went to the polls to vote in the town’s annual election. The town had two competitive races on the Board of Selectmen and the Trustee of the Swasey Parkway. Molly Cowan bested Nicholas T. “Nick” Gray by about 250 votes to win a selectmen’s seat, 1,190 to 931.

Darius X. Thompson place third with 466 votes.

Mark W. Damsell easily won the trustee seat against Dale Albert, 1,234 votes to 1,004.

Other candidates won their races by default because they were unopposed.

For warrant articles, a zoning amendment to allow minimal historic district impact easily passed, 2,036 to 494.

Article 3 – a $7.1 million proposal to renovate and expand the recreation park on Hampton Road – was rejected by more than 300 votes.

A $5.05 million library renovation project received seven votes over the majority but failed to receive 3/5ths needed to be approved.

Voter in town also overwhelmingly approved an $18.6 million operating budget by nearly 1,100 votes.
