The American Independence Museum in Exeter will host its Annual May Day/Opening Weekend Celebration this Saturday, May 3 from 10 am to 4 pm. At this free event, visitors can see four new exhibits, including medicinal use and practice during the Revolutionary War and the history of the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation’s oldest patriotic organization. In addition, kids will also have the opportunity to participate in a new Children’s Exhibit at the Museum’s Folsom Tavern.
Allison Field, president of the Museum’s Board of Governors, expressed excitement at the opening of a new season with expanded exhibits and new events. “Whether you’re a first time visitor, or have been here before, you’ll find new and interesting things to see, do and learn about,” she said. “The story of America as a nation has roots in Exeter—come and be a part of history.”
In addition to Saturday’s festivities, the Museum will host a Symposium on Thursday evening at 7 pm with UNH Professor Eliga Gould, who will deliver a brief presentation on “Cromwell’s Ghost: George Washington and the Making of the Continental Army.” The Symposium is free, although donations are encouraged.

Comprising the Ladd-Gilman House (c. 1721) and Folsom Tavern (c.1775) on more than one acre of landscaped property, the Museum hosts a lively schedule of public and educational programs and lectures, colonial artisan demonstrations, guided tours, and special events.
