MEREDITH, NH — Meredith Village Savings Bank announced that Maurice “Moe” Lafreniere has retired from its board of directors, effective March 31, ending a 38-year tenure that began in 1988.
The bank said Lafreniere served in leadership roles during that time and helped shape its governance, growth, and commitment to mutual community banking. MVSB said Lafreniere was recognized for his years of service and his contributions to the organization. The bank did not detail the recognition in the announcement.
“Moe’s impact on MVSB and the broader mutual banking organization has been significant,” Marcus Weeks, MVSB President, said. “His financial expertise, thoughtful governance and steady leadership helped guide the Bank through periods of growth and change while remaining true to our mission and values. Moe was a strong advocate for our staff, customers and communities, and he truly understood the role of a mutual community bank. He never lost sight of that responsibility and consistently held management accountable to keep it front and center in every decision we make. We are deeply grateful for the perspective and insight he brought to the Board.”
Lafreniere brought executive and governance experience to the role. The bank said he previously served for 20 years as chief financial officer of the Common Man Family, where he contributed to the organization’s long-term financial strategy and operational growth.
MVSB also said Lafreniere has served on the board of directors of New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp since the mutual holding company was formed in 2013. According to the release, that work included helping guide the organization and its affiliates, including Meredith Village Savings Bank, Merrimack County Savings Bank, Savings Bank of Walpole, and NHTrust.
During his years with MVSB, Lafreniere served on the Compensation, Audit and Governance committees, the bank said. The release also said his community involvement included nonprofit leadership and volunteer service with the Plymouth Rotary Club, First Star Tonight, and the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, among others.
MVSB said it has served banking customers for more than 150 years. With locations in Exeter and Portsmouth, MVSB is a mutual savings bank, meaning it has no stockholders and serves the interests of its customers, employees, and community.
