On October 18th, Nancy Parker, resident of East Kingston, was honored at the 2012 Spirit of NH Awards ceremony for her involvement and hard work with the Greater Exeter Citizen Corps. This annual recognition program is administered by Volunteer NH in collaboration with the Office of the Governor. Spirit of New Hampshire awards honor outstanding contributions to volunteerism throughout the state of New Hampshire. They augment the many local recognition events that show appreciation for the work of community volunteers and volunteer programs. The event was held in Concord at the Capital Center for the Arts.
Nancy has been volunteering with the Greater Exeter Citizen Corps since January, 2011. Nancy co-facilitates the monthly training meetings that are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Exeter Fire Department. These meetings provide members with emergency preparedness information and trainings. Past trainings have included CPR, traffic control, and future trainings include fire safety, pet sheltering, and a visit to the NH 911 Call Center in Concord.
Nancy also co-facilitates the Community Emergency Preparedness Class that is taught three times per year at various locations in the seacoast region. This is a 20 hour FREE course that includes CPR certification, Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Light Search & Rescue & more. Members of local police and fire serve as guest instructors. The community is welcome to attend these classes. We will be starting a new class in January, 2013.
