Planet Playground's 15th Anniversary Celebrated With New Signage

Exeter --Thanks to Mike Favreau, Director  of the Exeter Parks and Recreation Department, and Wendee Robinson and Meredith Moquin of “Signs of the Times,” three brand new signs have been installed at Planet Playground.

This fall will mark the 15th anniversary of the 1998 Planet Playground building project when hundreds of community volunteers came out to build the playground at the Parks and Recreation Complex on Hampton Road in Exeter.

Last spring, the Exeter High School Class of 2012 participated in a Community Service Day to refurbish the playground and noticed that several of the signs needed repair.

The main sign over the entrance, as well as two other smaller kiosk signs have now been replaced.  One of the new smaller signs features photographs taken of volunteers during the building of the playground in 1998 as well as “Then and Now” photos of three of the high school seniors who helped with the project 15 years ago, when they were in Kindergarten.  The other new sign has a collage of photos showing the 2012 graduating seniors working during their service day last spring, as well as a large group photo next to the newly painted rocket ship. Signatures of all of the volunteers are also on display.

Karen Prior, who spearheaded the project, along with Dawn Huebner, back in 1998 said, “It has been almost 15 years since the community came together to build Planet Playground. Though many who remember back to that time would say that the playground built community…whichever, or perhaps both, it is wonderful to see how the playground continues to be a popular gathering place for families to enjoy.”
