Archeologist to visit Newmarket Public Library
September happenings at Newmarket Public Library

Newmarket Public Library celebrates Library Card Signup Month throughout September. For students, a library card is essential. A library card provides access to e-books, online homework help and a multitude of online research tools and resources for their studies. Need information for that school report due tomorrow and it’s 9 o’clock at night? We have several great databases that students of all ages can access from home any time of day. It’s easy ― go to newmarketlibrary.org, click on databases and then the link that you need, enter the number from your library card, and the world opens up at your fingertips. Come in to the library to get your new card!
Interested in local history? Dr. Neill De Paoli will stop by NPL on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. to talk about his four-year search for the 17th and 18th century site of the garrison of William and Humphrey Spencer in South Berwick, Maine. While De Paoli has yet to uncover conclusive evidence of the Spencer garrison, he has discovered the homes and taverns of Humphrey and Mary Spencer and Captain Ichabod Goodwin. De Paoli, drawing on an extensive body of historic and archaeological material, will provide a vivid picture of the homes, taverns, and business affairs of the Spencer and Goodwin families during a time of transition from the Anglo-Indian wars of the 1690s and early 1700s to the relative peace that followed.
