Bank Continues Support of Dental Care for the Homeless

Families First Health and Support Center's mobile dental program receives a grant to continue its work in Exeter, Portsmouth.

Piscataqua Savings Bank recently awarded $5,000 to Families First Health and Support Center to support mobile dental services for homeless and other low-income people, the bank said in a press statement.

The mobile dental program, launched in August 2010, served 267 homeless patients last year through weekly visits to Cross Roads House and St. Vincent de Paul in Exeter. Dr. Skip Homicz, who has volunteered his time as Families First Dental Director since 2002 and as the dentist in the mobile health care program since 2010, says, “Frequency of dental problems presents one of the most significant physical needs of our homeless population. Relief of pain and infection and restoration of estethics for employability are critical for these folks to move forward.”

Piscataqua Savings Bank, an independent community bank, has supported Families First’s dental program annually since 2002. It was a founding funder of the agency’s on-site Dental Center which is open for all children and teens; seniors (65+) and veterans who live in or near Portsmouth; and other adults if they are patients at Families First Health Center. A sliding fee scale is available.
