On Saturday. September 2nd, the New Hampshire Young Republicans held their Annual Lobster Bake and Straw Poll.  We are pleased to announce that Dennis Acton won the poll for the district 23 state senate race with 56% of the vote while his opponent, Incumbent Senator Russell Prescott received 40%.

Acton stated “This is excellent news.  I spent the entire summer going door to door introducing myself to voters and listening to their concerns.  This poll is further confirmation that my message is resonating with voters and my campaign is building momentum by the day.”

Acton noted that he does not have a paid staff or a big budget like other candidates.  Instead, he has knocked on over 1500 doors and attended dozens of events, directly speaking to thousands of voters in the district.  Most media outlets have ignored this race thinking that it is not close, but this poll as well as the building interest in his campaign shows that his strategy is working.

“My opponent asked me one day why I was wasting my time.  I told him it was by no means a waste.  I am meeting great people, communicating a message of economic growth and liberty, and building enthusiasm for a big GOP victory at all levels.” Acton said. “The establishment is going to be quite surprised when I pull off a stunning upset victory on primary day!”

New Hampshire Young Republican Chairman David Hurst issued the following statement regarding the Straw Poll:  "The New Hampshire Young Republican Straw Poll is quickly becoming part of the proud New Hampshire political tradition in which retail politics can often overcome the most well funded and advised political campaigns. With the straw poll we seek to give our grassroots activists an opportunity to share their insight and to tell us whom they would like to see represent the Republican Party in November.  Today's straw poll continues this proud tradition.  While these numbers are far from a scientific representation of the general primary voter, these results do reflect the acknowledgment that these candidates have won over the hearts and minds of some of New Hampshire's most dedicated conservative activists."
