Atlantic Green Energy's New Lightbulbs Poised to Steal the Spotlight

Seacoast business Atlantic Green Energy stays on the cutting edge of the alternative energy industry with their new Induction Lightbulbs.

In the industry of alternative and renewable energy, you would be hard pressed to find a new product that can’t be considered “cutting edge.” It’s the nature of an industry that is constantly expanding and progressing.

But for a relatively new company like Atlantic Green Energy, it’s impressive how “cutting edge” they’ve become, and in such a short time. Owners George Hurley and Jack Haritas started the company in 2009 after many years of working in construction. Even in the few years since its inception, their business now boasts a wide range of alternative energy options from small-scale retrofitting materials to full Solar Thermal systems.

Now, Atlantic Green Energy is poised to add yet another energy-and-money-saving product to their inventory: The newly developed Induction Lighting.

Catering to large scale installations, the Induction Lighting is ideal for companies and even whole communities, as it has the potential to cut utility costs by as much as 50 percent, resulting in – potentially – thousands of dollars in savings.

But the benefits of the lights don’t stop there. Induction lights can last for 100,000 hours or more – that’s roughly two decades – all the while providing a 5000-kilowatt light source, equivalent to that of the sun itself. Owner George Hurley illustrates these benefits by comparing them to other types of light bulbs that have to be changed more frequently.

“Say a company uses a different kind of light bulb that has to be changed about five times in a period of twenty years,” Hurley expains. “They send out a truck with two men with a list of lights. It’s about 75 dollars to change that light, and if you had ten of those to replace that’s 750 dollars, multiplied by five. That’s a lot of maintenance costs you would save with Induction Lighting.”

Another, more aesthetic benefit is that Induction Lighting doesn’t flicker the way computer monitors and other commercial lighting does. Indeed, anyone who is familiar with the sterile harshness of typical commercial lighting can appreciate the Induction Lighting’s ability to reduce eye strain and headaches caused by flickering, and thus the health and safety benefits to be had.

The use of Induction Lighting also complies with utility and municipal energy rebate programs, another added bonus for home and business owners looking to go green and save some at the same time.

While the new Induction Lights offer substantial savings in and of themselves, Hurley stresses the benefits that a comprehensive alternative energy retrofitting – and the resulting savings – that can be had by a company.

“If a company was to invest in AGE products such as our window treatments that saves and brings in heat, a K-Shield that saves heat you’ve already paid for, or add some solar to your roof, the cost on the utility bills would take a major hit,” Hurley says. “We can go in with a package and save them an incredible amount.”
