GA to Re-launch Green Business Learning Series
This fall, Green Alliance is poised to roll out a second Green Business Learning Series featuring a new host of topics aimed at helping green, local businesses grow.
Back in the spring, the GA broadened its community and business outreach efforts by hosting a unique Green Business Learning Series at the company’s downtown Portsmouth headquarters.
Marshalling the expertise of myriad partnering businesses, the GA hosted seminars on topics ranging from effective green branding to brand development, marketing, and effective social media strategies. The events were a resounding success, with dozens of other businesses and community members in attendance.
This fall, the self-described “green business union” is poised to roll out a second Green Business Learning Series featuring a new host of topics.

The series kicks off Thursday, October 18th with “Using Mobile Apps to Grow Your Business.” The forum will be headlined by Alex Bakman, founder of Snappii, a company specializing in mobile phone applications for businesses of all sizes, and across industries and sectors.
According to numerous recent studies, nearly 500 million people worldwide own smart phones, and that number is expected to double in the next few years.

Bakman, a serial technology entrepreneur who founded three businesses that have gone from zero to over $10 million in revenue, says he plans to discuss how these hand-held wonders represent not only a revolution for individual consumers, but for business development strategies and growth as well.
“Our goal is to help small businesses make mobile apps quickly, easily and the most important affordably,” says Bakman. “We’re giving customers the opportunity to make mobile phone apps without programming skills and in a timely fashion.”
In a phrase, Snappii helps businesses create mobile storefronts. Using the omnipresent Pay Pal platform as the go-to landing pad, businesses – and small businesses in particular – can now put themselves on something of an equal footing with their larger competitors, making their products, services, and brands simultaneously more competitive and easier to reach.
“My goal will be to give concrete, industry-specific examples of how people can use apps to reduce their expenses, save time, and grow their business,” notes Bakman. “Whether it’s for marketing, products, or any other purpose, having an app is a great investment.”
Bakman’s talk will be followed up on November 8th by second talk on Renewable Energy Options for Businesses, and is slated to include presentation by Glacial Energy, Eco Firebox, Simply Green Biofuels, and Ultra Geothermal.
Both forums will feature a talk by Harvard Professor Greg Norris, Founder of New Earth, who will discuss the concept of “environmental hand print,” or the positive impacts that businesses can have in reducing their carbon footprint.
Since the organization’s first learning series, GA Director Sarah Brown says she’s gotten positive feedback from businesses and community members alike.
“We pride ourselves on being able to provide both business-to-consumer connections, as well as business-to-business connections, and these seminars help to accomplish both,” says Brown. “We saw attendance increase pretty much every time, and that was when the weather was getting nicer. We think Alex’s installment on mobile apps will be extremely informative and we encourage everyone to stop by.”
The seminars are free Green Alliance Business Partners and well as Green Card holders. Non-members can attend by purchasing a one-year membership for $25 at the door – $10 off the organization’s standard membership fees.
As with the GA’s previous Learning Series, the fall installment will be hosted from 5 to 7pm at the company’s 75 Congress Street (third floor) headquarters. Light appetizers and refreshments will be included.
