Revolution Energy Wins Prestigious Green Award

Revolution Energy, a business specializing in alternative energy systems, has just received Business NH magazine's 2012 Lean and Green Award.

Revolution Energy's popularity has grown substantially since it's inception in 2008. But after winning Business NH Magazine's 2012 Lean and Green Award, there's a chance that the resulting publicity could help them grow even faster.

Business NH conducts their annual sustainability awards every August, with five businesses being highlighted in that month's issue. This year's ceremony—to be held on September 27th—will see Revolution Energy receive the Green Service Award, in recognition for their servicing the installation, funding, and maintenance of alternative energy systems, while providing businesses and municipalities alike with an alternative, affordable form of payment.

Word of Revolution Energy had been circulating throughout the Seacoast community following the completion of several high profile projects. This includes the Portsmouth-based business' work with Sanborn Regional High School, where RE became the first business in the world to sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for solar hot air generation.

These projects were brought to the attention of the Green Alliance, a union of green businesses that promote eco-friendly business practices, as well as a green co-op that offers discounted green products and services to its members. They were ecstatic about the idea of PPA's and immediately developed a business partnership with Revolution Energy.

Revolution Energy was the first company in New Hampshire to use PPAs, which function a little like an alternative energy mortgage. Instead of burning through large quantities of cash in order to buy a solar array system at full price, RE establishes a payment plan where companies only have to worry about paying a monthly bill for the energy the system produces.

This way, companies big and small can save money on their energy in the short-term, while also diminishing their carbon footprint in the long-term.

“It makes sense for our clients because, really, they're saving money from the start of the project to it's completion and beyond,” says co-founder and President Mike Behrmann. “It's a way for people to achieve their dream of sustainable energy generation in a much more cost effective way.”

Other projects recently completed by Revolution Energy include the installation of solar arrays for the local business Favorite Foods (based in Somersworth), the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Edge Sports Center in Bedford, Mass.

“The whole Revolution Energy team is honored by the Lean and Green Award,” says Behrmann. “It's been a lot of hard work, but we want to prove to everyone that you can do well by doing good. We're really proud of what we do, and it's very rewarding to see that other people are too.”
