A successor to the group that 40 years ago helped stop the development of a Great Bay oil refinery, the Great Bay Stewards has since expanded its environmental and conservation efforts to include education of young and old alike.

A “friends group” to the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Stewards help and rely on the Great Bay Discovery Center, the educational cornerstone for the Reserve, to meet the organization’s core mission. The Stewards provide funding for programs, capital improvements, and new exhibits that promote learning.
The race itself starts at 9 AM will take place on a fast, scenic course starting on Sandy Point Road in Stratham Hill Park in Greenland, NH and finish near the entrance to the Great Bay discovery Center on Depot Road. Registration is $25 now until race day. On race day, registration for those who have not signed up is from 7:30-8:45 AM at the park. Registration is limited to 1,200 people, so be sure to sign up today!
Other activities at the race include the Mackenzie Mile, a free kid’s Fun Run, a Costume Contest (open to all ages), and a Bike Raffle. An award ceremony will be held at the end with prices for the fastest runners in each age group as well as for those with the best costumes in each race!
Another cool feature of the race is that it will use bib-chip timing. This means that each race number will have a timing device on the back of it that will immediately start when the race begins to provide each racer with the most accurate time possible.
This is sure to be an event for everyone in the family to enjoy! An array of tasty treats and refreshments will be provided at the race, along with long-sleeved shirts for the first 800 applicants.
The funds gathered via race entry fees are vital to the continued viability and success of the Great Bay Discovery Center as a demonstration site for sustainable building and landscaping, and as an educational facility that serves over 5,000 students every year.
