Cause of Double Drowning in Local River Still a Mystery

The cause of a double drowning in Hampton last week remained a mystery Tuesday.

Mark Classen, 57, and Bruce Menezes, 53, both of Hampton, were found floating in the Hampton River near the Hampton River Marina Friday morning.

Autopsy results indicated the men drowned. Police haven't said how they ended up in the water.

Hampton Deputy Police Chief Rich Sawyer told Patch this week there's "no new information" in the case.

Sawyer said the Chief Medical Examiner's Office will issue a formal report in the "near future." Sawyer said he couldn't comment on whether foul play was involved.

The marina yard manager told the Union Leader that the men had been left with a boat overnight Thursday on a floating dock moored in the river, but were missing when a friend returned to the dock in a dinghy the next morning.
