Club Finz Continue Sock, Hat and Mitten Drive During Pandemic

Parrot Head Club Donates to Those in Need

In a year when they couldn’t get together in person for a good cause, Club Finz Parrot Head Club of Southern Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire got creative to host their annual sock, hat and mitten drive.

The 21st Annual Kristine Cuzzi Sock, Hat and Mitten Drive included a GoFundMe that raised $1,325 and the collection of 2,000 items collected at parking lot drops offs and an outdoor dining meetup. Club Finz is a social club for fans of Jimmy Buffett which embraces the philosophy to “party with a purpose” by combining charity work with social outings.

“The results exceed my expectations,” said Diana Minutelli, who chairs the drive. “We are so grateful for the turnout of donations.”

The drive usually collects items for local charities and this year sought a wish list from Crossroads House, Families First and My Turn. They used the GoFundMe proceeds to buy items on the list and ended up with even more support when out shopping. The Hanes Outlet donated a bag of undergarments for Crossroads House and plans to help with additional items in the future. Later, at BJ’s Wholesale Club, Minutelli struck up conversation with a couple about diapers and they returned with a $100 donation to buy more items for Crossroads House.

“This year, 2020 may have its challenges, but my heart is warmed by the Club Finz ability to still have a successful event,” Minutelli said.
