David Short Announces Write-In Bid for Swasey Parkway Trustee

Current Conservation Commission Member Seeks Vacant Seat

EXETER__Former Stratham selectman and current Exeter resident David Short is running as a write-in candidate for the open spot as a Swasey Parkway Trustee.

The spot is being vacated by Florence Ruffner who decided not to seek another term.

Short has been an active, engaged member of the local community for the past 30 years with a passion for shared natural resources--the land, trees and trails. He established Stratham Circle Nursery in 1991 and continues to manage this successful local family business while donating to and supporting numerous local organizations and individuals.

The Dewey Street resident lives just a short distance from Swasey Parkway, which he calls a town jewel. He is a current member of the Exeter Conservation Commission and is the liaison to Exeter’s Tree City USA Campaign. Short also leads the trails’ subcommittee for the Exeter Town Forests.

He views work on behalf of Swasey Parkway as a continuation of his existing volunteerism on behalf of the community.

“Exeter can both protect and enjoy this valuable natural and recreational space, and I want to actively be involved in making sure that happens,” Short said. “I like the idea of working today to preserve this space for future generations.”

In Stratham, Short worked with the town and the Southeast Land Trust to preserve a critical piece of land abutting Stratham Hill Park.

As a three-term selectman in Stratham, he was a member of budget and conservation committees. He has also served as a member of the Stratham Hill Park Association.

“I think the position is a perfect fit for me,” Short said. “I'm experienced in local government, fiscally responsible, and I know how to balance the needs of interest groups by building consensus.”
