Dig In: Real Food Solutions Celebrates Local Farmers, Fisherman, Brewers and More

Straight to the Source: From Farm to Fork A local food-coaching program includes tours with farmers, fisherman and local brewers

NH SEACOAST – Two seacoast women have joined forces to help folks get more creative in the kitchen and find out how great they can feel by eating whole, real food every day. They want to celebrate the abundance of local food available in the seacoast and connect people to the source of their food!

After teaching cooking classes and running wellness programs, Kath Gallant, owner of Blue Moon Evolution restaurant and Tracey Miller, Holistic Health Coach, started Dig In: Real Food Solutions to create a supportive, broader community of people who want to feel empowered by what they eat.

They offer a virtual program that folks can enjoy from the comfort of their kitchen, or an exciting community program with trips to local farmers, fisherman, and brewers on Wednesday evenings. Participants also get a Summer Cookbook, daily cooking and health tips, weekly cooking videos and become part of a community that is passionate about local food!

We are getting to the source this summer. This program is perfect for anyone who loves to cook or needs some help in the kitchen!” said Miller.Participants create sustainable changes that will keep them healthy for a lifetime. “I am experimenting more with ingredients I was always afraid of, only because I didn’t know how to use them. Dig In has taught me to be brave, to be willing to try new things, and most of all, how empowering it is to have control over my body. Dig In isn’t a weight loss program, or a diet. It is a lifestyle, and for the very first time in 46 years, it is a lifestyle I can actually live with,” said Susan Marcella one of the participants.

They offer four seasonal programs.

Welcome & Overview, Exeter, NH (June 24)

Meet your Dig In community, pick up your materials, and sample some foods from the Summer Cookbook. (Location: Blue Moon Evolution, 8 Clifford Street, Exeter, NH)Stout Oak Farm, Brentwood, NH (July 1)
Stout Oak Farm is an organic vegetable farm located on the historic farm property that is protected by an agricultural conservation easement. The farmer, Kate Donald, and her team grow 6 acres of certified organic vegetables for their farm store, CSA shares, farmers’ markets, and wholesale accounts. Learn about organic practices and also taste Kate’s famous greens as we whip up some fresh salads at the farm.

Flag Hill Winery, Lee NH (July 8)
Flag Hill is the largest vineyard in New Hampshire. They also secured the first distillery in New Hampshire in 2004 and produce General John Stark Vodka and a barrel aged brandy from scratch, with apples brought in from Apple Hill Farm, in Concord, NH. They grow their own grapes, raise food on their land. Learn the agricultural aspects of wine and spirit making and taste some of their hand crafted wines and spirits.

Hurd Farm, North Hampton, NH (July 15)

Hurd Farm is a small, family-owned, 160-acre farm located on the scenic Taylor River that has been run by the family since 1923. Steve and Sheryl Hurd transitioned from a dairy farm to a meat and poultry farm with grass-fed beef, chickens, and heritage-breed pigs. The animals are raised on pasture without hormones or antibiotics. Learn about pastured animals, farm rotations, the growing cycles of cattle, and tips for cooking.

The Farm at Eastman’s Corner, Kensington, NH (July 22)
The Farm at Eastman’s Corner is a community-governed year-round farm and marketplace that supports local farmers and food producers. Get a tour of their facility including their farm store, food barn, goats, greenhouses, and more. Karimah Nabulsi, owner of Karimah’s Kitchen, will also do a cooking demo featuring some of her Lebanese food with unique spices and fresh ingredients.

Eastman’s Docks, Seabrook, NH (July 29)
Get down on the docks and meet local commercial fisherman Eddie Eastman.Eddie is a former commercial ground fisherman that now lobsters and takes fishing charters. Eddie will also teach us how to fillet a fish. We’ll grill up some local catch as we take in the local sea air and admire our precious seacoast.

Throwback Brewery, North Hampton, NH (Aug 5)
Throwback is a small, inspired brewery dedicated to crafting delicious, farm-fresh artisanal beers from local ingredients. It’s located in North Hampton at Hobbs Farm. The owners, Annette Lee and Nichole Carrier, have a vision to acquire 100 percent of their ingredients (such as hops, wheat, barley, fruit, and spices) from within 200 miles of the brewery. Learn how the brewing process works in this small brewery with big taste, and sample some of their specialties.

Celebration and Party, Blue Moon Evolution (Aug 12)
Join us as we wrap up the summer program with a party, raffle prizes, and awards. We’ll do a potluck and enjoy a meal together while we reflect on what we’ve learned and how we can continue to stay connected to our food source.
