Earth Day Rally at Exeter Town Hall in Support of Renewables
Signatures gathered for petition to NH lawmakers
Marking Earth Day, 350NH sponsored a “Lead Us to Clean Energy” rally in Exeter on Saturday, April 25, to gather signatures on a petition for the governor and legislators, calling upon them to support a number of renewable energy initiatives, particularly solar and offshore wind development.
At a time when New Hampshire’s need for reliable energy and more jobs are critical issues, the N.H. House has voted to raid the Renewable Energy Fund of $50 million, which would drain the fund for the next two years. The fund gets its money from electric rate payers and helps finance commercial, municipal, and private renewable energy projects.
Many advocacy groups including the N.H. Sustainable Energy Association, 350NH, and your own Exeter NH Transition Town, are working to encourage the N.H. Senate to keep the Renewable Energy Fund intact in their version of the budget. 350NH is a grassroots organization whose mission is to promote development of renewable energy and phasing out of fossil fuels which promote climate change. Exeter NH Transition Town works towards lowering Exeter’s carbon footprint via small steps the average Exeter citizen can make. Find them on Facebook, where they have posted an album full of fun photos from the rally.
